HI, I'M ABIGAEL
My work explores the realities, resilience, and culture of coastal communities at the forefront of the climate emergency.
With a BSc. in Environmental Science (University of Guelph) and a Master of Marine Management (Dalhousie University), my work has graced global academic journals, government initiatives, and news publications, and taken me around the world.
Known for my engaging science communication style and unique ability to weave together rigorous science and authentic stories, I’m passionate about breaking down traditional research norms and carving out a space in science and policy for local voices to drive global change.
I specialize in socioecological research, science communication, and project management, often working in Canada and the Caribbean on topics of sustainable development, climate change, and environmental justice in underrepresented communities.
WHY STORYTELLING?
I wrote my first story 'Philly, Billy, & Bob buy a Birthday Gift' in the back of my mother's van at six. I’ve since been refining my craft.
Throughout my career I’ve come to discover the power of sharing stories with one another. The trade of histories, experiences, and even jokes can instantly connect individuals and provide insights into the way we live and the things we value.
In research, anecdotal evidence offers unique contextual clues, helping us to draw parallels between experiences, while sharing our research through stories paints a richer picture of the issues we investigate and can engage a variety of audiences, sparking thought, conversation, and change.

I take great pride in sharing stories through transparent, meaningful, and creative work that is accessible beyond just the ocean-community and am on a mission to carve out space for the realities, resilience and culture of coastal communities in marine science, policy, and education.
